Match Day 38 encounter, with Eibar taking on Barcelona on Saturday the 22nd of May, 2021, at Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa.

Eibar visited Valencia last weekend having earned seven points from their three previous matches, staying alive in the fight to avoid relegation. Their 4-1 defeat at Mestalla though, meant that they are going down, no matter what they do in their last game. Their current form reads; LDWWL. They are on 30 points from 37 matches, sitting at the very bottom of the table. They can still avoid finishing last, but they cannot avoid relegation.

They have 6W, 12D and 19L, more losses than wins and draws combined, but just one in their last four games. Goals, 29 scored, 51 conceded. Coach José Luis Mendilibar played a 4-4-2 formation against Valencia last weekend, with Kike and Muto up front. Bryan Gil came off the bench in the 36th minute to substitute injured Kévin Rodrigues and two minutes later scored for Eibar. By then though, his team were already 3-0 down(!). As hosts, Eibar have just two wins all season, a 2-0 over Granada in January and a 3-0 over Deportivo Alavés earlier in May.

If you are a Barcelona fan, the end of the season must be feeling like a very-very bad joke… It all started with that “unacceptable” 1-2 home defeat to Granada, on April, 29. On May 8, the Blaugrana had another massive chance, but wasted it, drawing 0-0 with Atlético Madrid at home. Right after that, they shot their own foot once again drawing 3-3 with Levante as guests. Last but not least, a week ago, they lost 1-2 to Celta at Camp Nou, despite taking the lead in the 28th minute. Ridiculous… Utterly ridiculous…

Their current form reads; LDDWL. They are on 76 points from 37 matches, sitting 3rd in the table. They cannot finish any higher, but they can still drop 4th. They have 23W, 7D and 7L, having won just one of their last five league matches. Goals, 84 scored, 38 conceded. Coach Ronald Koeman played a 3-1-4-2 formation against Celta last weekend. Lionel Messi scored Barcelona’s goal. Clement Lenglet got sent-off in the 83rd minute and in the 89th Celta scored the winner (1-2)..
