Copa América group stage game, with Argentina taking on Chile on Monday the 14th of June, 2021, at Estádio Nilton Santos, in Rio de Janeiro.

Argentina hosted Chile 10 days ago for a 2022 World Cup qualifiers match, it ended 1-1, a game from which the Argentinians should have taken more, as they were the better team on the pitch. Ironically, a few days later, Messi and Co visited Colombia, went 0-2 up less than 10 minutes into the match, once again were the better team on the pitch, missed chances to finish things off early,

but… somehow they got equalized 2-2 deep-deep into added time. Their current form reads; DDWDW. Despite not winning in their last two games, they sit second in the qualifiers’ table, having only Brazil above them. Coach Lionel Scaloni played a 4-3-3 formation against Colombia last week. Cristian Romero and Leandro Paredes scored for Argentina.

Chile have left a lot to be desired in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, having won just one of the six games they have played. Sure, that 1-1 in Argentina earlier this month was a positive result, but the 1-1 versus Bolivia that followed, at home, was an extremely poor result. They are on just six points, sitting 7th in the table, two points behind 5th-placed Colombia.

Their current form reads; DDWLW. Coach Martín Lasarte has been in charge since February this year. His debut was in a 2-1 friendly victory over Bolivia, late March. Against the same team last week, in the World Cup qualifiers, he chose a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Vargas up front. Pulgar opened the scoring for the Chileans in the 69th minute, they should have protected that slim lead until the final whistle, but they gave away a penalty and got equalized in the 82nd minute.

Argentina and Chile last met earlier this month, in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. As previously mentioned, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The national teams of these two countries have met a total of 91 times(!), with the Argentinians having an awesome record of 59W, 26D and just 6L. In Copa América they played against each other two years ago, again in Brazil, the Argentinians won 2-1 in the 3rd-place match.

A 1-0 victory for Argentina is predicted at full-time.
